Following a generous $100 million donation to Newark’s struggling public school system, 26-year old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is following it up with a commitment to donate the majority of his wealth to philanthropy throughout his lifetime. Zuckerberg is joining The Giving Pledge, an initiative created by fellow billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to encourage wealthy individuals and families in America to give the majority of their wealth to charity.

Zuckerberg, who is valued at over $6.9 billion, joins 57 other wealthy individuals who have made the same moral commitment including Ted Turner, George Lucas, and Michael Bloomberg.

“People wait until late in their career to give back. But why wait when there is so much to be done?” said Zuckerberg in a statement. “With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts.”
