We have just two weeks until the highly-anticipated return of pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne, and now we’re getting our first taste of her new single “What The Hell,” off of her forthcoming album Goodbye Lullaby. The 30-second snippet was released to Friday, boasting Lavigne’s classic pop-punk sound with energetic and sassy lyrics. The song will be unveiled in it’s entirety on December 31 during “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” special when she performs it publicly for the first time ever.

Lavigne’s new album Goodbye Lullaby hits stores and iTunes on March 8, 2011. Until then, keep up with Avril on Twitter at @AvrilLavigne.

Lavigne gave her fans a peek behind the scenes of her recording process in August when she recorded a YouTube video with producer Alex Da Kid who is producing a selection of songs off of the album. Alex is one of the most in demand producers of 2010 after helming such hits as B.o.B. & Hayley Williams‘ “Airplanes” and Eminem & Rihanna‘s “Love The Way You Lie.” Check out the video below!
