Over 50% of American Dogs & Cats Are Overweight

While Americans continue to fight the battle of the bulge, their pets are now on the frontlines, as new data suggests over half of U.S. dogs and cats are overweight or obese. According to the recent survey by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, owners are routinely overfeeding pets, not giving them enough exercise and unaware of the expensive health problems that result from excess weight. Arthritis, cancer, diabetes and kidney failure are complications that can effect the one fifth of dogs and cats that are classified as “obese” – at least 30% above normal weight.
