Late-night “Chelsea Lately” comedian Chelsea Handler phoned in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Wednesday morning to joke chat about upcoming series “After Lately,” her new book Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me, and the in-development NBC sitcom “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.”

Chelsea explains the premise behind new book Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me as, “everyone telling a story of a way I have lied to them. My sister, brother has a chapter, a lot of people that work here [have a chapter]-it’s kind of in line with the new show ‘After Lately,’ because it’s behind the scenes, playing really stupid practical jokes which is how I keep myself interested with working here.”

As to what ‘behind the scenes’ entails, Chelsea reveals, “we have animals here,  I mean it’s not really organized.” And as for her co-workers: “I harass them. I make fun of them. I send emails from them when they’re not at there desk.”

Chelsea’s new book may reveal what lies she has told, but her upcoming 30 minute mock-u series “After Lately” does just the opposite! Handler explains, “I wanted to do ‘After Lately’ because so much stuff happens behind the scenes that people wouldn’t believe it …it’s such nonsense…they are convoluted sophisticated jokes where you have to show up at places to pull it off,” even confessing, “I like it a lot better than the show I’m doing now.”

Considering ‘the show’ she’s doing now, “Chelsea Lately,” Chelsea ironically admits “I don’t think I’m that funny. I’m not really even trying to be funny on my show…I’m just being myself.”

While she may just be being herself on air, she’s not in line to play her actual self for NBC’s rendition of her best-selling book Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea which of the same title is being developed as a sitcom, which Chelsea as executive producer. As to whom she’ll play then?  “I might play my older sister, cause it’s me when I’m 26 and I turned 36 on Friday, and people barely believe that age…so I’m going to play my older sister probably and my older sister is kinda uptight and mormon so could be fun to play her.”

And of course, the convo couldn’t go without a Charlie Sheen remark, which when Ellen K. suggested Handler consider Charlie Sheen’s rumored fragrance as a topic of debate on ‘Lately,’ Handler joined in commenting, “called what? Regret?” Adding, “I want to send him a fruit basket and say thank you so much, he’s given me so much material!”
