Howie Mandel “May Have Gone Too Far” With Fox Special ‘Mobbed’ [VIDEO]
TV host Howie Mandel called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Thursday morning to talk about his new Fox television special “Mobbed,” as well as upcoming “America’s Got Talent,” his opinion on Charlie Sheen’s issues-and even his own!
Howie explained, “you Ryan are one of the inspirations for this show,” alluding to Ryan’s Scope flash mob “Smile,” which even featured his mother, Connie. Mandel explains the desire for “Mobbed” as, “there might be a lot of people who don’t know what a flash mob is, which is a spontaneous combustions of musicals. People sing and dance in public spaces like malls and train stations, and I’ve been following them for five years…. Millions of people are downloading them worldwide.”
Yet “Mobbed” as Mandel explains, “takes it one step further,” presenting us with the idea, “what if your were trying to convey a message that would change somebody’s life? What if your wanted to tell your boss to take this job and shove it? What if you wanted to tell someone you were pregnant and he’s the father?…What do you think would happen?…We want to smash that privacy and do it publicly.” Mandel seems to suggest he accomplished just that-as the one time special which premieres tonight immediately after “American Idol” (FOX 8/7c), features a pregnancy annoucement which shocks the person involved, causing Mandel to reveal “I may have gone too far.”
Aside from “Mobbed,” Mandel’s on to host upcoming season of “America’s Got Talent,” which Mandel reveals he has a plan for: “I am on a new mission this season. Piers [Morgan] and I, we butt heads…he’s been calling me the most annoying man on television…this year I am spending my time annoying him to no end.”
As for the recent rumors Mandel may be possibly sympathetic towards Charlie Sheen, Howie revealed, “I empathize…obviously he had some issues with substance, and that is addiction, which is a mental health issue, and he’s dealing with this in whatever way he chooses to in coping and I empathize because I personally have been very open about my health issues.” Howie further confessed such ‘health issues’ as “I have OCD and ADHD, and I’ve suffered from depression, and as I talk to you right now I am medicated…I don’t want to exploit his issues, he’s exploiting them fine and selling out like crazy.”
