Kanye West is no stranger to putting on a dramatic show, and his vast knowledge of the art was on display Sunday night as the hip hop heavyweight closed the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA.

The stripped-down performance offered few extravagant special effects beyond some minor pyrotechnics and a slew of ballet dancers. His one man show displayed his amazing ability to make an empty stage look like it’s brimming with life that spilled into the audience.

Despite rumors that Rihanna and/or Katy Perry would join him on stage (both were in attendance at Coachella), Kanye remained solo on stage, singing his hits including “Power,” “Runaway,” and “Stronger.” He closed the show with “Hey, Mama,” a song for his mother that he wrote before her unexpected death in 2007.
