Ann Curry ‘Feared’ First Day As Co-Anchor of the ‘Today Show’ [AUDIO]
TV journalist Ann Curry talked to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Thursday about her first day as co-anchor on “The Today Show” and how her 30 years in hardcore journalism has been uplifting.
Ann has been apart of the “Today Show” for 14 years, and she now begins a new chapter as co-anchor with Matt Lauer, describing it as an amazing experience that she says she is so lucky to be a part of. However, she said “there was a degree of fear today that I hadn’t had in many years,” explaining she knew she would be joining a history of great women who have been the co-anchor of the “Today Show” over the past 60 years. A show with such a history, Ann said “it was an exciting and sobering moment, she felt like a kid in a candy store.”

Ryan later jumped topics and asked Ann about the current scandal involving Rep. Anthony Weiner. Ann comments, “why is it we are hearing this story over and over again…why does this keep happening?” Ryan asks Ann, “When you do the news, do you also have a voice in your head that’s giving opinion inside your brain, since you can’t really give it on the air?” Ann responds, “When you are in the news mode, when you are interviewing someone, you have to be in the game frame of I want to give the public the right to make the opinion.”
Ann also reflected on her career as a journalist saying, “When I look at the scope of human history and what we have become despite all the things that are happening to bring us down, the truth is we are evolving to a more compassionate, better species. When I go off and do these stories, I am stunned by the greatness of our human family. Our ability to care and have compassion for people and places we can’t even pronounce. So, I have to say that I am uplifted after almost 30 years in journalism.”
