Matt Lauer joined “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Thursday to discuss his emotional week of transition on “The Today Show,” the odd relationship between new co-anchor Ann Curry and Brad Pit, and his take on the possibly mayoral candidacy of Alec Baldwin.

Matt reflects on the events of the past week of transition saying, “It’s been kind of an emotional week. We had a big farewell for Meredith, which I think was a lot of fun and touching and Meredith really liked it. We kind of did some unusual things.”

He then continued with the transition into Ann Curry, “We just jumped, its not like we take a break. The next day was Ann’s debut, that was a big show. The good thing is its a new day, a new page or a new chapter. Ann’s been on the show 14 years so its a little bit seamless. I’ve probably hosted the show over the 15 years with her being there 250 times. So there’s a great comfort zone there. ” Matt sang his new co-anchor praise stating, “This is a show of equals. Ann is incredibly steady, she’s passionate, she’s warm, the audience knows her and loves her.”

Regarding Brad Pitt Matt jokingly adds, “I think she’s a little bit too close to Brad Pitt actually. She follows him around a lot. She’s had maybe 3 dozen interviews with Brad and Angelina. She’s in Cannes with him, on movie sets in Brazil. I don’t know, there’s something going on there that hasn’t hit the cover of US Weekly yet, but it will eventually and it will go down in flames!”
