The countdown is on for the arrival of newlywed royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton to Los Angeles, where they will embark on a three day swing through Southern California, visiting various galas, fundraisers and a polo tournament in which William will play.

In anticipation of their visit, Ryan tasked his intrepid producers with snagging a coveted interview with the royal couple, to welcome them to Hollywood and perhaps share some of his favorite local spots. Shortly after reaching out to them, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” producer Claudine received what may go down as the most polite and pleasant response to a guest booking ever. Ryan read the e-mail on the air:

“Thank you for writing in to me and introducing yourself,” wrote Nick, a representative from the couple’s camp. “It’s very kind of you to offer the Duke and Duchess on Ryan’s radio show. I very sorry to say, however, that the couple will not be undertaking any interviews during their tour of Canada and California, or before or immediately after it. This is normal practice for members of the royal family when an official overseas visit occurs. Furthermore the Duke and Duchess actually very rarely take part in interviews at all. Sorry to be sending a disappointing response, but hope you enjoy their visit to California.”

Though Ryan had his hopes up for a visit from the U.K.’s most in-demand duo, “I knew there wasn’t a chance in hell.” Listen to audio of Ryan talking about the all-too-kind e-mail below!
