Katharine McPhee Talks Meeting Steven Spielberg For ‘Smash’ & Starring In Shark Night 3D [AUDIO]
“The House Bunny” starlet, Katharine McPhee, called into “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” Thursday to talk about her latest movie, her new television series, and her relationship with legendary director, Steven Spielberg.
She didn’t win “American Idol” five years ago, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been busy! Katharine says, “For the last several years, I’ve just been auditioning, auditioning, auditioning.”
Well, her auditioning has paid off. She’s been hard at work making movies and playing the lead female role in NBC‘s new television series, “Smash.” She says, “I play a character on the series named Karen, and she’s sort of a young, she’s very green in the business. She’s new to the business of broadway. She’s taking her shot at a new role, a new musical.”
The new show, out early next year, is being executive produced by “Jurassic Park” director, Steven Spielberg. Spielberg has been babying this show for years. Katharine says, “When I came off Idol, I don’t know if you remember this, 5 years ago, Steven Spielberg took a meeting with me. I remember walking out of that meeting going, ‘Gosh, you know that was so amazing, but I wonder what that was all about.’” She remembers him asking her lots of questions about what her goals were and her aspirations. And now, five years later, she’s the lead role in his theatrical TV show.
Aside from her new small screen gig, she’s also on the big screen this Friday in the new horror flick, “Shark Night 3D.” The new movie follows a group of friends who go away for the weekend and stay at a lakehouse. Strange things happen when sharks appear to be in the lake. The film is not based off true events, but the “American Idol” alum says, “On the ‘Discovery Channel,’ all those kind of “Shark Week” things, they all talk about the lakes that are connected to the ocean and Louisiana, off the coast of Louisiana. There’s just enough salt in these lakes for these sharks.”
Katharine wants everyone to experience “Shark Night 3D.” Her message to you is to, “Go see Shark Night 3D! It’s a lot of fun!”
