Kelly Ripa Explains The Process To Replace Regis [AUDIO]
Regis Philbin, her current co-host on their popular morning show, will be leaving in November. A number of male celebrities have been named to take his place. Kelly says to those rumors, “I don’t know. I assume the process, well, I know the process is going to be like how they found me. Which was kind of just by, they had to, when Kathy Lee left they had a series of rotating co-hosts, and people would come in. Literally the list was, there was no short-list. It was just one big long list. Everybody on the planet was eligible.”
Kelly doesn’t even want to think about Regis leaving her side. She says, “I can’t think about it. I mean, he’s been such a big part of my life for so long. And he’s been an enormous part of my kids’ lives for their whole lives. So I don’t want to think about that moment because I really don’t know what it’s going to be like.”
Before the energized actress landed her “TV presenter” role on the talk show, she started her career off working on the soap opera, “All My Children.” Kelly’s role on the show lasted for 20 years, and now the show is coming to an end September 23rd. She reflects, “I mean, to me, it’s devastating. It’s very sad. It’s definitely a brand of entertainment that’s been around for decades and decades. I mean, a show like, ‘All My Children,’ to go off the air this Friday is tragic. It’s been on the air for 41 years. But I think it’s the state of just what television is now. There are no longer three channels. There are 900 channels.”
Maybe Kelly and her husband’s, Mark Consuelos, new E! reality show, “Dirty Soap,” might mend her broken heart. Kelly’s new show is all about the steamy, gossip behind the scenes of soap operas. She says, “Well, it’s a world that Mark and I know very well because we met and got married on a soap. It’s sort of the backstage lives of real life soap stars. And it takes you backstage on the soap set, and it takes you in their lives which are often so much more dramatic.”
