It’s been a while since we’ve been graced with those pointy ears, pudgy feet and dirty faces of Middle Eart, but finally we have our first glimpse at “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, Peter Jackson‘s prequel to his Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” saga.

The trailer, released nearly 10 years to the day that the first “The Lord of the Rings” hit theaters, gets us acquainted with the humble beginnings of all the characters we know and love, from Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellan) to Frodo (Elijah Wood) and yes, even precious little Gollum (Andy Serkis).

The movie follows young Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and his quest to track down the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the dragon Smaug. Don’t worry, we’re lost too.

Though the trailer is certainly whetting the appetites of “Rings” fans, they still have to wait a full year to see it, as the box office draw won’t hit theaters until December 14, 2012. Jackson is scheduled to release a second “Hobbit” film in 2013.
