The holidays are in high gear as Rihanna released to #RihannaNavy her sensual short film for “You Da One.” Not be outdone Taylor Swift has given her “Swifties” the first listen to her new single “Safe & Sound,” the first single to be revealed from the upcoming summer flick The Hunger Games soundtrack before its full release on March 23rd.

Late last night Taylor teased her twitter followers by tweeting “something I’ve been VERY excited about for a VERY long time is going to be happening VERY soon.” Taylor then revealed her Christmas surprise:

Taylor Swift Among The Highest Earning Female Musicians For 2011 [AUDIO]

Taylor, as accompanied by folk duo The Civil Warssings a lullaby filled with tears, darkness, and fighting for the safety of a loved one before the sun rises again. She sings: “Don’t you dare look out your window/ Darling, everything’s on fire/ The war outside our door keeps raging on/ Hold onto this lullaby.”

Although it may be a vastly different sound and story than many may be used to hearing from the bubbly country sweetheart, the melancholy tone and direction suits the overall theme of The Hunger Games perfectly. One can only imagine where the foreboding dirge may be placed at a pivotal point in the story.

“Safe & Sound” has rocketed to the top of the iTunes chart, and is also available to purchase.

Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I’ll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don’t leave me here alone
But all that’s dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Don’t you dare look out your window
Darling, everything’s on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music’s gone, gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You’ll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound
