Debra Messing Says ‘Smash’ Has ‘Something For Everybody’ [AUDIO]
“Smash” actress Debra Messing called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on Monday to talk about tonight’s series premiere, producer Steven Spielberg and how she knew the show was going to be a big deal.
Unless you live on another planet, you have heard everyone is buzzing about the series premiere of “Smash” tonight on NBC. “Every week we’ve been getting more and more proud and more excited about what we are doing, and finally now we get to share it with people,” Debra tells us.
The series was originally being developed for Showtime, Debra had read the script then, but knew this show would be a big deal even before she started working on it. “Our new president at NBC, came over from Showtime, the only thing he brought with him was the script of ‘Smash,'” she says.
The show is the brainchild of Steven Spielberg. “He came up with the idea for the show 7 or more years ago. So, this has been in the making for a while. It has been a real passion project for him and he is pretty good at what he does,” Debra explains.
“Smash” also stars the talented Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty. “Every episode there’s great singing and great big production numbers and there is a whole wide range of characters that are varied and interesting. So, there is really something for everybody,” she says. “Smash” premieres tonight on NBC at 10/9c.
