OK Go’s ‘Needing/Getting’ Video Turns Band Into Stunt Drivers [VIDEO]
From the creativity in making “The Machine” in ‘This Too Shall Pass’ to the hilarity in “A Million Ways” OK Go has failed to disappoint. And they have continued to outdo themselves with the video for their new song “Needing/Getting.”
Mastermind and director Brian Perkins along with band member Damien Kulash directed the video for the single. The band partnered up with Chevrolet and set up 1,000 instruments throughout a two-mile range in a desert bordering Los Angeles. They then set up a Chevy Sonic with retractable pneumatic arms to play the instruments as they drove through the track.
But this isn’t the end to the amazing-ness. OK Go took it to another level by singing while driving through the track, recording the video through it all. No studio time—just all the craziness in the car.
It took OK Go 4 months to prepare for the video and 4 days for shooting and recording. The best part about the video is that it reeks of authenticity. There were no stand-ins: band member Damian took stunt driving lessons to prepare for the ride.
Needless to say, the videos will keep getting better as they come.
