EXCLUSIVE: Katharine McPhee Rocks Adele’s ‘Rumor Has It’ On ‘Smash’ [VIDEO]
Katharine McPhee called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on Monday to chat about singing Adele‘s “Rumor Has it” on an upcoming episode of “Smash” and the impact that the late Whitney Houston had on her as a singer.
NBC’s newest “Smash” showed that there is more drama behind the curtains than there is on stage in the spotlight. The musical drama premiered last Monday night with 11.5 million viewers tuning in and a 3.8 rating, making it the third highest rated new show debut of the season and for an upcoming episode Katharine got to sing Adele’s hit “Rumor Has It.” She tells us, “I’ve been obsessed with her record for like the last year, much like the rest of the world. It was originally in the script and then it got cut out and I actually had to fight for it.” The episode will air in a couple of week, but you can get a little sneak peek below.
Stars are still reacting to the untimely passing of Whitney Houston and Katharine is no exception. She actually performed Whitney’s hit “I Have Nothing” Back in 2006 when she was a contestant on “American idol” and tells us what impact the singing legend had on her. “She was huge. The 3 divas that I looked up to were Whitney, Mariah and Celine. I mean, those were the three women that I listened to their records over and over and over again and had huge influence in my life. So, I can only strive to be half as good as they ever were. It’s such a tragedy,” she tells us.
You can see Katharine on “Smash” Monday nights on NBC at 10/9c.
