On Recording Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (0:55)
Nicki begins by saying, “I’ve never had this much fun recording music in my life. My first album I was very guarded. I felt like I was making music to please everyone else. I had to be politically correct, but this album I am just creating music, and it there’s such a big difference. Literally in the studio we were cracking up laughing, having fun, and enjoying ourselves. The music itself your going to get every side that I’ve ever shown and then a little bit extra. I’ve tried to make it very, very balanced, because I don’t ever want to be boxed in, and that’s always what drives me. So I made a very diverse album.”

On The Evolution Of Nicki Minaj’s Music (2:00)
Nicki clarifies: “I feel like that (album) was a too open Nicki Minaj. I had been on the underground scene for years. My first album felt more to me like a diary…with this particular album I felt that it was time to give people a moment to enjoy the lyrics, and enjoy the beats, and enjoy the voices. When I was going to do my first album people would say, ‘What is she going to talk about? Is she just going to talk about sex?’ So I made it my business to make an album that did not talk about sex at all. I made it my business to make an album that wasn’t a vulgur album, because my mix tapes I was very, very…outlandish on my mix tapes. With this album I’m going back to not necessarily to that sound, but that feeling. The feeling of ‘I don’t care what you think!’ That’s what it is.”

On Recording “Starships” With RedOne (4:30)
“There was so much love surrounding the making of the song, because RedOne is just so sweet to work with. He just sent me that one day and he said, ‘Hey, I got something for you!’ I was like ‘You got to be kidding me, right?’ I went to the studio and started writing…scratch that…I didn’t even write the first verse! That was just me mumbling and just saying the first thing that came to my head, and we recorded it, because I just felt…like let’s go to the beach…let’s go get away…It was just so good. It feels good!”

NICKI MINAJ – “STARSHIPS” – LYRICS

Let’s go to the beach, let’s go get away.
They say what they’re gonna say.
Have a drinks, clink, found a Bud Light
That **** like me, it’s hard to come by.
The Patron on. Let’s go get it on. The zone? On? Yes, I’m in the zone
Is it two, three? Leave a good tip.
I’m going to blow all my money, and I don’t give two s****.
I’m on the floor. I love to dance. Now give me more. ‘Til I can’t stand.
Get on the floor. Like it’s your last chance. If you want more, then here I am.

Starships were meant to fly.
Hands up and touch the sky.
Can’t stop ’cause were so high.
Let’s do this one more time.

Starships were meant to fly.
Hands up and touch the sky.
Let’s do this one last time.
Can’t stop — we’re higher than a mother ******

Jump in my hoopty-hoop-hoop. I own that.
And I ain’t paying my rent this month. I owe that.
But check who you want, and check who you like.
Dance all night. There’s no end in sight.

(Twinkle twinkle little star…)

Now everybody let me hear you say, pray pray pray pray
‘Cause you spent all your money ’cause you pay, pay, pay.
And if you a G, you a G-G-G-G, my name is a ???, you can call me Nicki.
Get on the floor like it’s your last chance.
If you want more, then here I am.

Starships were meant to fly.
Hands up and touch the sky.
Can’t stop ’cause were so high.
Let’s do this one more time.
