It’s been a rough transition onto the Dallas Mavericks for former Laker Lamar Odom, but today his inability to find a rhythm has led to his departure from the team.

“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom told “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

ESPN sources report that the Mavericks will list Odom as inactive for the rest of the season instead of releasing him, making him eligible for trade after the season.

“It’s tough,” Lakers star Kobe Bryant recently told following a game in Dallas. “He comes to a team that’s pretty much set, you know what I mean? So it’s hard for him to find his niche.”

Odom’s struggles to fit in with the championship-winning team have been chronicled on his reality show “Khloe & Lamar,” and his lack of synergy showed on the court, clocking only four first quarter minutes during Saturday’s game against Memphis.

“It’s the first time basketball has felt like a job,” said Odom in last night’s episode of the hit E! show. His dampened spirits were the subject of the episode as Khloe Kardashian did everything in her power to coax a smile out of him. Watch the clip below:
