Think of it as “The Hunger Games” meets “The Bachelor,” as characters in an upcoming show battle for the love of a prince.

“The Hunger Games” fever isn’t going away soon, and the fire will only be fueled by the new show “The Selection” coming to the CW in Fall 2012. The series will star former “Friday Night Lights” actress Aimee Teegarden and actor Ethan Peck as the Prince.

The Selection is a book due out on April 24th from author Kiera Cass, and while it’s not the same as Suzanne Collins‘ record-smashing series, it’s similar. In a dystopian future with a strict caste system, girls viciously compete on television for a prince’s hand in marriage.

The protagonist, American Singer, is one of the girls chosen to move to a castle and try to win the heart of Prince Maxon. She doesn’t want to leave her current man, Aspen, but she participates to help her family — and because she doesn’t have a choice.

Meanwhile, rebels fight back against the royal regime. Sound familiar? Luckily, Cass insists that “The Selection” and the next two books of the trilogy are much more light-hearted than “The Hunger Games” despite those similarities.
