It’s been a long 19 months since Linkin Park has released their 2010 album A Thousand Suns and now after much pleading from fans, the band has released the first single from their new album Living Things.

“Burn It Down” hit the web early this morning revealing yet another evolution in the band’s nü-metal sound, which frontman Chester Bennington explains was an important part of writing the new album.

“All of our songs take these really big creative turns and twists throughout the process, so sometimes songs will start out as a melody or some musical chord progressions,” Bennington told MTV. “Other times, they’ll start out as beats, and the next thing you know they kind of evolve over the course of the making of the album. But what’s interesting about this track is the really high energy and the really strong electronic melodies and hooks kind of set this song apart, which is why we chose it as our first single.”

Living Things is set to hit stores on June 26 and will be produced by their longtime collaborator Rick Rubin, famous for his work with everyone from The Beastie Boys to Rage Against The Machine… and yes, THAT Jay-Z song.

“This album is a really great representation of where we’re at right now as a band,” Bennington explained. “We’re kind of really comfortable with our early nü-metal days, and we’re really comfortable with where we’re at in our more contemporary version of ourselves, so this is a good representation of that comfort level with our own identity as a band.”

Watch the lyrics video for “Burn It Down” below:

The cycle repeated
as explosions broke in the sky
all that I needed
was the one thing I couldn’t find

And you were there at the turn
Waiting to let me know

We’re building it up
To break it back down
We’re building this up
To burn it down
We can’t wait
To burn it to the ground

The colors conflicted
as the flames climbed into the clouds
I wanted to fix this / but
couldn’t stop from tearing it down

And you were caught at the turn
caught in the burning glow
And I was there at the turn
Waiting to let you know

You told me yes / You held me high
And I believed when you told that lie
I played that soldier / You played king
And struck me down when I kissed that ring
You lost that right / to hold that crown
I built you up but you let me down
so when you fall / I’ll take my turn
and fan the flames as your blazes burn
