“The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder caused quite a scene when he visited “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Monday morning and shared his interest in the role of Christian in best-selling book “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The heartthrob also talked about the highly anticipated kiss on last week’s episode “Heart of Darkness.”

On Casting Rumors “Fifty Shades of Grey”
“Potentially. I absolutely would be up for that. I have the book and I just started reading it. That would be a pretty incredible thing, and hopefully that could pan out, I think.” He affirms, “Yes, beyond the shadow of a doubt I think that would be a phenomenal opportunity!”

On Florence And The Machine Soundtrack:
“I saw Florence And The Machine on Saturday. They blew my mind at Coachella. Her voice is incredible. I just wanted to walk up on the stage an just hug her, then I realized that that was the song they had cut together, and thought ‘Oooooo. That’s going to be pretty.'”

On “The Kiss” of “The Vampire Diaries”:
“It was definitely three years for us on the show, but I think our season is about six months each. You figure about a year and a half of them knowing each other. It’s a pretty big build up!”

On Writing Christmas Cards In His Underwear:
“I spend my Christmas time with my family in Idaho…and I’m sitting there in my underwear looking up at the mountains and having my coffee. I wrote you [Ryan Seacrest], Jann Wenner, and Congressman George Miller holiday cards, in no particular order, and I made sure that they got out immediately that day.” Did the smoldering Somerhalder wear his underwear and snow boots out to the mailbox to mail it? “I think it was more of a run to the town to get it out. But next year you wait until the next tweet you get, Ryan!”

On “The Ian Somerhalder Foundation“:
“It is a giant effort on behalf of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and all of our amazing partners. In 2006 in Estonia a young businessman looks around and sees all the trash all over his country and says, ‘ You know what this isn’t good. Let’s clean it.’ They rally together a portion of the countries population, and they did it all in one day.”

He continues, “Now one year in the making. Over 2,000 schools signed up in California and more people than you can count…to clean the entire state of California in one day. Everywhere. From tip to tip. We went for it. Thank you guys for listening to it, and thank everyone for helping with everything that went into it. I think it’s a milestone. I think it’s a thing that’s unprecidented. We’re going to do it every year in a state, and in a couple years just how clean the United States of America will be!” [For more information visit Ian Somerhalder Foundation]
