American Idol’s remaining five contestants competed last wednesday night in two categories: songs from the 1960’s and Britpop. The guest mentor of the week was a member of Bruce Sprngstein’s legendary E Street Band. We are referring to Steven Van Zandt, or more commonly known as “Little Stevie.”

Hollie Cavanagh (@CavanaghAI11) performs “River Deep Mountain High” by Ike and Tina Turner at the Top 5 performance show. She kicked off the evening with the bang. She impressed the judges with her performance proving she can step outside of her comfort zone.

Hollie Cavanagh (@CavanaghAI11) performs “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis at the Top 5 performance show. Hollie continued to impress with this performance. She kicked off the Britpop performances right.

Phillip Phillips (@PPhillipsAI11) performs “The Letter” by The Box Tops at the Top 5 performance show. Phillip changed this song to a version that suited himself, despite Jimmy Lovine’s advice to not do so. Phillip made the right decision because the judges raved over his performance.

Skylar Laine (@SLaineAI11) performs “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” by Dusty Springfield at the Top 5 performance show. Jimmy said she “needs to make the magical transition into country.” Skylar did just that with this performance, and the judges loved it.

Jessica Sanchez (@JSanchezAI11) performs “Proud Mary” by Credence Clearwater Revival at the Top 5 performance show. Jessica continued to prove her mastery of soul with this performance. All three judges were very impressed.
