Ryan Lochte is making waves both in the pool and on the covers of national magazines. Most recently he’s gracing the August 2012 cover of Men’s Journal in a signature speedo, out on newsstands Friday. Inside the mag he speaks about how the Olympics four years ago changed him and what his goals are for this year.

On Competing In Beijing:
“After Beijing, I said, ‘Enough is enough.’ I don’t like losing. I started doing things differently than I’d done in the past. Instead of having one or two practices back to back that were great, I was having weeks and weeks that were really great.”

On His Hopes For This Year:
“I could get one medal or 20, and I’ll be happy. Swimming doesn’t define who I am. I’m not going to give up anything for it. I’m still going to be exactly who I am and have fun with life. There’s a lot of swimmers out there who make swimming their life, but for me, it’s just a sport that I do.”

On Wearing His Grill On The Medal Stand:
“Some of the tight-asses were like, ‘Oh, what the heck, that’s not good, that’s not good sportsmanship.’ I don’t show them off during the ceremony, anything like that, but it’s, like, my personality coming out there. That’s what the sport needs. If we want to make the sport bigger than it is now, we have to start showing our personalities.”

On Taking Risks:
“Something could go wrong driving to practice. I could get hurt in a million ways. You have to take that chance.”
