The girls began their golden night on the vault, where super-vaulter McKayla Maroney delivered her high flying Amanar vault with perfection. Although the judges didn’t award her a perfect score, the shock on their faces captured by the NBC broadcast clearly projected that Maroney’s vault may be the best in Olympic history to date.

The good fortune continued for team USA as fluid routines on the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise brought in the scores that secured the gold.

As the Russian’s fell apart on beam and floor exercise, the Americans powered through their final rotation, leading to the tear-jerking moment where team USA anxiously awaited to finally see their names atop the scoreboard. Needless to say, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
