For Team USA, athletes receiving a special medal are given Nike apparel to wear on the stand. Many have chosen the bright, green shoes to complete their winning look. Nike explained the outfits on their website claiming, “The world is watching and we want to make sure the athlete looks and feels good in celebration of their achievement.”

USA athletes including Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin aren’t the only stars showing off their bright shoes. Olympians around the world are wearing red, blue, and even yellow shoes during their games. One soccer player even sported orange shoelaces.

It’s a trend that has been around since the spring of 2012. The shoes help add personality to any outfit and show off a person’s fun attitude. Celebrities including Carly Rae Jepsen and Selena Gomez have been sporting the neon on red carpets for a variety of events. In our opinion, they don’t look too bad at all.
