What WON’T Michael Phelps Do In Retirement? [PHOTO]
Michael Phelps is pretty pumped to put his swimming career behind him, but what’s the one thing he’s not looking forward to? Packing on the pounds post retirement.
“One of the things I want to do is I’m not going to let myself get out of shape like I did in 2009,” Phelps said Sunday. “I gained like 25 pounds in six months. We’re going to try not to go down that road this time around.”
It may seem insane that someone as fit as Phelps would be worried about a little bit of muscle loss, but if athletes don’t adjust their eating habits to fit their less-active lifestyle, those chiseled abs can turn to mush faster than butter in a microwave.
Phelps ended his historic Olympic career with 22 medals–2 bronze, 2 silver, and 18 gold. While he seems content with his retirement for now, the world can only hope that the swimming star will get bored with his retirement, just in time for Rio.
