Filmed for “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” the singer opened up about the infamous fight with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. In addition, fans were able to see another side of the 24-year-old still adapting to worldwide fame. From her views on being a role model, to her late grandmother’s influence, to her visible sex appeal, Rihanna didn’t shy away from any subject.

Thoughts On Being A Role Model:
Rihanna made it perfectly clear she is not comfortable being a role model. “I can’t say I’ll get it right every time. I’m a work in progress,” she told Oprah. She also described the fear of being on a pedestal reserved for celebrities. “I don’t want to be above [my fans],” Rihanna said. “We are all people.”

Her Grandma’s Advice She Will Always Remember:
One of the greatest people in Rihanna’s life was her grandmother who recently died of cancer. “She was a well-rounded woman,” Rihanna tearfully said to Oprah. “She taught me a lot about forgiveness, loving my enemies, spirituality, strength as a woman.” The greatest advice the singer received from grandma was that a man should always love Rihanna a little more than she loves him. Oprah couldn’t help but agree.

On Being Comfortable With Her Sex Appeal:
We’ve seen the scandalous photo shoots and heard the juicy song lyrics. However, Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive didn’t always feel hot in her own skin. “I had to pretend I was comfortable. I felt I had to fake it, just go for it,” Rihanna said when describing how she first showed off her sex appeal. When asked about her title from Esquire, Rihanna laughed and simply replied, “inaccurate but flattering.”

The Public Fight With Chris Brown:
Years after the fight, Rihanna still appeared emotional and raw when the subject turned to Chris Brown. She described the evening of the fight as, “embarrassing, humiliating, hurtful. I lost my best friend,” Rihanna told Oprah. “Everything I knew switched in a night.” Despite her hurt and anger, Rihanna felt Chris made the mistake because he needed help. “I was more concerned about him,” Rihanna admitted when describing the media circus that followed.

Her Relationship With Chris Brown Today:
The rumors about Chris and Rihanna getting back together were finally addressed Sunday night. “We’ve been working on our friendship again,” Rihanna said. “We love each other and probably always will. You can’t push that off.” Rihanna told Oprah she is single and he’s in a relationship of his own. When she does run into her ex, Rihanna admits, “it’s awkward because I still love him.”

Did She Forgive Chris Brown:
Rihanna claims Chris was the love of her life and she has forgiven him. “It took me a long time. I was angry for a long time,” Rihanna said. In the end, forgiveness was made possible when Rihanna reconciled with her estranged father. During her childhood, Rihanna witnessed her dad become violent against her mother. By making peace with her father, Rihanna said she was able to make peace with Chris.
