Mark Ballas called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to chat about and this season of “Dancing with the Stars” and working on new music with Timbaland.

On Filling In For Derek Hough on DWTS:
When Derek got injured a few weeks Mark was called to step in. “I feel like I’ve done more work since I’ve been kicked off than when I was on,” he says. So, who takes creative control Derek or Mark? “We kind of do that together. He was in there, he was wanting to move around. Me and Shawn [Johnson] we just kind of wanted him to relax and take time to really heal. We actually ended up tying him to the chair with big rubber bands. He was tied to the chair for about an hour and a half. But it was really good, Derek and I have grown up together since we were 9 and 10-years old. My parents trained us both. So it’s really easy for me and him to be creative together. It worked really well and I danced with Shawn in season 8, so it was already kind of natural, we kind of picked up where we left off.”

On Recording With Timbaland:
“At the end of last year and beginning of this year I’ve been working on a new record. I’ve been in Miami and Philadelphia working with the Timbaland camp and stuff. It’s been really fun and cool. I’ve been doing music for awhile, I went to music school when I was younger. Out of all the music I’ve done I feel like this body of work really represents me as a musician and as a guitar player.”

What Can Fans Expect On Mark’s Album?
“I started playing guitar when I was 9. My dad had me in guitar as a flamenco player. My guitar style is very elaborate, very percussive, authentic and rhythmic. But the drums are very urban and the vocals are very pop R&B. So, when you add all that together it’s got a really cool feel. It’s still pop, it’s urban, but it’s got a real rhythmic kind of tribal feel. Still Top 40 and still urban, but still very guitar based and authentic.”
