Why Did The Lumineers Relocate From New York To Denver?

The Lumineers were honored with a pair of Grammy nods last week including Best New Artist fueled by the success of their mega hit “Ho Hey“. But none of the accolades would have been possible if two of the band’s members Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz hadn’t made the decision to move from the Brooklyn music scene to Denver, where they met cellist Neyla Pekarek through a craigslist ad.

So we asked Jeremiah, was was it about Denver that made them drop everything and relocate? “It was more about leaving the music scene we were in…I think we were more running from New York City. We just wanted to move somewhere where we could eliminate distractions and make good music that sort of got us high on a selfish level,” he says.

The band will fittingly be returning to Brooklyn on December 21 to play a sold out show at the Barclays Center alongside Dave Matthews.
