Tommy Mottola Recalls Simon Cowell’s Invitation To Judge X Factor
Tommy Mottola, one of the most powerful and successful music executives in the history of the industry responsible for discovering Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and others, took time on Wednesday to call in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to chat about his recent book Hitmaker: The Man and His Music, Simon Cowell’s invitation to judge in London, and his apology to ex-wife Mariah Carey.
Will Tommy Join ‘The X Factor’ Judges Panel?
After a slight hesitation he says, “Never say never about anything, ya know? Actually, what I did decline was…Simon did talk about going to London. He said ‘No one can replace me, but you should be the guy. Then we can figure out the States.’ I said, ‘Simon, I got to be honest with you, I just can’t park myself in London for the year.'”
On His Apology To Ex-Wife Mariah Carey
“I’ve read so many things over the years about all of the things that were said. If in fact it was taken that way then certainly I apologize for that.”
On His Marriage To Thalia
“She is such a unique special person! Loving, kind, warm, with the same family background. The same way that I was raised with affirmation and family. Those are her priorities, and our children. Her work is secondary now, you know. We have a unique relationship in that respect.”
