Bruno Mars, who is embarking on a massive five month world tour The Moonshine Jungle Tour, phoned in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” and revealed what’s behind his hit ballad “When I Was Your Man.”

With lyrics like: My pride, my ego, my needs and my selfish ways / Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life,”  we had to ask, is their a personal experience behind the song?

Bruno revealed: “Everything that I write is from a genuine honest place because at the end of the day I have to connect with the song. And I have to perform the song. I can’t just be singing fairytales and putting on an act basically.”

“Talk about something that is extremely hard to talk about and be as honest as possible. So you know, I’m in a situation right now, when you write that song you’re in a dark studio and bringing out those emotions and tapping in to a dark place…and now I’m at a part where I’m performing it…and it’s a very eerie, weird feeling because you’re like bleeding in front of people talking about this personal thing that happened to you. So I’m going through that right now…I’ve never felt anything like it before.”

Bruno sums it up as: “You can’t really hide from it. If you don’t treat her good, someone else will.” Amen!
