Season 16 Dancing With the Stars partners Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to chat their first performance success and tonight’s upcoming dance.

The couple, who kicked off the competition in the lead with 24/30 points, had to adjust Val’s typical approach to dance because of Zendaya’s age.

At 16-years-old, Zendaya is the youngest contestant ever and Val revealed: “I think naturally people are a little hesitant with any big change like that last season my partner was a completely different age and period in her life so looking at a 16-year-old girl and knowing how passionate I am on the dance floor, I was a little hesitant to see what the product was going to look like. But, you adjust and I’m so grateful that I’m paired up with this great talent.”

Would DWTS Pro Karina Smirnoff Ever Consider Being The Bachelorette?

Adding, “I think ballroom dancing for me is a man/woman thing…a relationship between a man and a woman…and my dancing always embodied that so in the case of Zendaya and I, I want to keep the passion and keep it interesting but I want it to be more inspiring rather than a love affair…it’s more about two people celebrating dance.”

So how does Zendaya feel being the youngest contestant? The actress admitted, at first, people doubted her ability, sharing: “I think they do sometimes I feel like people just assume because your young you can’t be as good as the big kids.”

Clearly she’s proved them wrong!

Tune in to Dancing With the Stars tonight on ABC at 8/7c to see Zendaya and Val take on the jive!
