Bradley Cooper phoned in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to talk about his latest movie, The Place Beyond the Pines, as well as his experience visiting survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Happy Earth Day: Which Pop Culture Icons Should Be Recycled Or Tossed?

Bradley, who is currently filming American Hustle in the city with Jennifer Lawrence, was photographed with New England Patriots’ wide receiver Julian Edelman visiting survivors from the devastation.

“You can really feel the energy of the city rallying around itself,” the actor explained. “I would’ve been right there we just happened to be in a town about 45 minutes shooting that day [otherwise] I would’ve been right there.”

Speaking of hospitals, Bradley talked about a pivotal scene in The Place Beyond the Pines. ”I remember the first day of shooting, it was the hospital scene, literally the first day, he made me stay in the bed all day long and I had to use the bed pan in front of the crew.”

In that same scene, a mosquito landed on the actor’s face during filming … but he didn’t break character. ”I can’t tell you how many people have [talked about the mosquito] and I’m like, ‘Whoa I can’t tell if that’s a sign I’m not doing a good job in the scene if they’re looking at the mosquito,’” he joked. “But you do see in real time a mosquito land on my face and then proceed to get about four times as large sucking on my blood.”

Bradley also dished on co-star Ryan Gosling, who he was kept from until they filmed together, as per the director’s orders. ”We’re only in one scene together [and] I had never met Ryan so I didn’t meet Ryan until my character meets him.”

Another topic Ryan just had to ask about: that ridiculous permed hairstyle he was seen sporting on the set of American Hustle. “Unfortunately, that was my idea,” revealed Bradley. “The character curls his hair because back in the late ’70s a lot of men … they wore curlers in their hair. So a lot of men would do that to give themselves perms.”

And how long does Bradley have to sit in the makeup chair every day getting his locks curly? “They put the rollers in and them I sit underneath a … dryer for 45 minutes,” he explained of the daily ritual.

As for The Hangover Part III, Bradley shares that he is really excited about its May 24 release. “I hope people react well to it,” he said. “[Director] Todd Phillips is just amazing.”
