The 24-year-old penned her first novel over winter break in college and she’s never looked back. “It was really incredible,” she explains. “It was like one minute I was at my parents house in my rubber ducky pajamas writing this story that I just thought would go nowhere, and I polished it and sent it to agents … and I got one.”

And what did she do to celebrate? Veronica jumped into a tub filled with marshmallows, of course.

“I kind of made a promise a couple months before I made the book deal, ‘Oh if this ever happens …,’ thinking it would never happen.”

But it did. And since then, Veronica is inspiring young people all over the world with her book series, about a dystopian Chicago, and its heroine, Tris.

“I think it suggests a kind of power that people of that age have,” Veronica explains.

Now, her books are heading to the big screen. A film version of Divergent is currently in production … and it stars Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet.

“I didn’t believe it until I got to visit the set,” says Veronica excitedly.

Next up is the third novel in the series, Allegiant, which hits shelves on October 22, and Veronica revealed its cover with Ryan on Thursday. “I can’t wait for everyone to read it to see how this story ends,” she says.
