Who Inspired Jonah Hill’s Exaggerated Self in ‘This Is the End’?
Ever wondered what it’s like when the funniest men in Hollywood all get together? Well, now we know!
Jonah Hill stars alongside James Franco, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Michael Cera, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, and more in This Is the End, an apocalyptic comedy where they all play ridiculous, exaggerated versions of themselves.
So how did it all come about? Jonah explains: “Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who wrote and directed the movie, called me up and were like, ‘We’re gonna all play ourselves, but like really douchey versions of ourselves,’ and I was like, ‘I’m in that sounds hilarious.'”
Jonah had an interesting prop to help get in tune with the “douchier” version of himself.
“We were shooting Django Unchained …while we were shooting This Is the End and so the night before we started shooting … I went to dinner with some of the cast members and Jamie Foxx, who is a friend of mine, had a really big diamond earring in,” the actor explains. “And I was leaving dinner and was like, that would look so ridiculous on me but looks so cool on him, so I came to work like, ‘Guys can I wear like a huge diamond earring?’ And they were like, ‘Sure!’ And I was like, ‘It would just be really funny if we just never mention it.'”
Aside from laughing at themselves in the flick, Jonah shares that when it came to This Is the End, “It really is just playing on how actors are ridiculous … there was no holds barred, everyone rips on each other’s careers super hard.”
However, the actor admits, “It’s honestly just so much fun and … I’m so lucky to have these friendships … and now that we’re a little older, it’s so cool to get back together and just hang out for a couple months and to make a movie making fun of ourselves.”
