The Wanted‘s Nathan Sykes has recovered nicely from his vocal cord surgery, but before he went under the knife, he was worried.

In an exclusive interview with E! News, the 20-year-old reveals that he had a panic attack before the April surgery.

“I’m feeling a lot better than I did two months ago,” he says. “Let’s just put it that way.”

But although it was initially a scary situation, now that he’s back (Nathan performed with The Wanted over the weekend at Summertime Ball Festival at London’s Wembley Stadium), he’s better than ever.

“I have a lot more control of my voice now and I know when it’s tired,” he says. “And I know what I have to do to not make it sound bad.”

While he was recovering, it was his fans that really pulled him through, Nathan adds.

“They really kept me going. They were always online going ‘How you doing? How you doing?’ but I didn’t want to say too much because they were always like ‘When you back?’ that was always the first question and I didn’t want to say specific dates just in case I didn’t make it.”

But he did! And both the fans and his bandmates are happy to have him back on the stage.
