Is John Mayer giving Taylor Swift a taste of her own medicine? It sounds like it.

The Battle Studies singer is exciting fans with a glimpse of his upcoming album Paradise Valley, with a new single “Paper Doll.” Having only been released on Tuesday morning, the track is already being pinned as an ode to his former girlfriend.

Here’s the evidence: In the chorus, John sings, “You’re like twenty two girls in one / And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from,” which draws comparison to Swift’s song “22.” In one verse, John croons, “Someone’s gonna paint you another sky,” which sounds like a direct response to Taylor’s 2010 song, “Dear John,” in which she sang, “You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain.”

Taylor famously lampooned John for breaking her heart in “Dear John,” which also included the lyric, “Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong / Don’t you think nineteen’s too young to be played with?”

But the real hidden symbol in “Paper Doll” has nothing to do with Taylor. The music video features Joanna Rohrback, an expert “prancerise” dancer, who showcases her viral talent around a small neighborhood in beat to John’s tune.

There has not been a scheduled release date for the album as of yet. Mayer is set to kick off his summer 2013 tour July 6 in Milwaukee.
