‘American Idol’ Winner Ruben Studdard Joins ‘Biggest Loser’


A decade after winning Season 2 of American Idol, Ruben Studdard wants to start losing.

The singer, nicknamed the Velvet Teddy Bear, has joined the upcoming fall season of NBC’s The Biggest Loser in the hopes of shedding some weight, People and NBC report.

The 35-year-old first attempted to get healthy in 2006, but quit after losing 12 lbs. because “I was exhausted,” he told the magazine at the time. “It was making me sick.”

Soon after, Ruben became a vegetarian and dropped an astounding 70 lbs., but put much of it back on after his 2012 divorce.

The 15th season of The Biggest Loser premieres on October 8 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
