After an eight-month hiatus, HostessTwinkies are back on the shelves of retail stores nationwide!

On July 15, the gold-on-the-outside-cream-on-the-inside sponge cake made its return to fans of the iconic snack, who’ve been missing its sugary goodness since November. In honor of this triumphant re-emergence, here are 10 things you need to know about the sweet treat Americans have grown to know and love.

1. Twinkies have new owners! Apollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulous & Co. bought the Hostess brand family for $410 million after it shut down in November.

2. The new Twinkie is smaller! One cake weighs 38.5 grams and is 135 calories compared to the old 150-calorie cake, weighing 42.5 grams.

3. It stays fresher much longer! The snack’s shelf life has been extended to 45 days, instead of the former 26 days.

4. Twinkies remain the same price! A box of 10 is $3.99, which isn’t bad nowadays … but then again, a pack of two used to sell for 5 cents in the ’30s.

5. The golden cake is 83 years old! It was created by James A. Dewar, a baker from Continental Baking Co. in 1930.

6. The delightful treat is named after a shoe company! James dubbed it a “Twinkie” after he saw a billboard for Twinkle Toe Shoe Co.

7. The first Twinkies had banana filling! But they were switched to vanilla shortly after the banana shortage during World War II.

8. There are 39 ingredients in a Twinkie … some are definitely more natural than others.

9. A Twinkie was placed in a time capsule! Former President Bill Clinton and the White House Millennium Council chose the iconic brand to be included the nation’s millennium time capsule at the National Archives, set to be opened in 2100.

10. The live audience at Kris Jenner‘s new talk show, Kris, went home with a box of Twinkies!
