Video Premiere: Yulianna and The Game Show Love for ‘Californ-i-a’

Nothing says summer like sunshine, the beach, and driving with the top down.

And that’s exactly the premise of Yulianna‘s new music video for “Californ-i-a,” which is basically a tribute to all things summer and, well, the Golden State.

The video begins with the California Institute of the Arts grad (she earned a master’s degree!) chilling in the Hollywood Hills as she sings, “I’m glad I came / Was sticking my toes in the sand / While I watched the waves come crashing into me.”

Yulianna then goes shopping on Beverly Hills’ famed Rodeo Drive, followed by watching the skateboarders in Venice and a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway.

And “Californ-i-a” — the same name as Yulianna’s full-length album — also features another homegrown talent: The Game.

But the Los Angeles-born rapper’s part of the video isn’t as sunny as Yulianna’s. Instead, it shows the seedy side of Southern California — especially homelessness and prostitution — as he says, “City of Angels / town full of sinners.”

Caiforn-i-a was written and produced by Yulianna, as well as writer-producers RAS (The Wanted, Jordin Sparks, Big Time Rush) and Spencer Nezey (Electropop, Jupiter Rising).
