Lea Michele Tearfully Honors Cory Monteith at Teen Choice Awards

Audience members at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards got teary-eyed (and so did we) after Lea Michele‘s acceptance speech, which turned into a moving tribute to her late Glee co-star and boyfriend, Cory Monteith.

As the cast of Fox‘s hit TV show returned to the set for its fifth season without one of their biggest stars, it was surely an emotional evening at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California, on Sunday, especially since Glee won Choice TV Comedy.

Remembering Cory Monteith: His 10 Best ‘Glee’ Performances

“Although we lost someone that we really love, and that all of you guys love, too, we are very fortunate to come back to a show where we feel the love of family, and Cory was like a brother to us, and like a dad,” cast member Amber Reilly said in their acceptance speech.

But it was Lea’s acceptance speech for Choice TV Actress: Comedy that had everyone visibly moved. Lea, who made her first public appearance on Sunday since Cory’s July 13 death, donned a pink dress and a necklace with Cory’s name. She thanked everyone for their support during these “very difficult” past few weeks, and then honored her late off-screen beau.

“He was very special to me, and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful, beautiful heart,” she said through tears. “So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and became a part of all of our hearts. And that’s where he’ll stay forever.”

Glees new season will begin on September 26.
