Spice Girls – “Say You’ll Be There”
The 1997 VMAs was a British invasion as the international superstars took the stage to perform their hit song “Say You’ll be There.”
Chris Brown and Rihanna – “Wall to Wall” and “Umbrella”
The R&B power couple joined forces and wowed the crowd by laying down some killer dance moves at the 2007 VMAs! The “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer closed the act with his famous b-boy moves to Michael Jackson‘s “Billy Jean” and his own track “Kiss Kiss.”
Madonna – “Like a Virgin”
The Queen of Pop made sure she the saved the date for the 1984 VMAs. The “Like a Virgin” singer got into character and performed her hit song in a wedding dress!
Eminem – “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am”
The rapper had the audience questioning who the real Slim Shady was in his VMA performance by mobbing with hundreds (ok, not really) of men wearing blue jeans and plain white tees in 2000.
Kelly Clarkson – “Since U Been Gone“
The American Idol alum performed her hit song “Since U Been Gone” at the 2005 VMAs and made it rain during her performance of the catchy heartbreak song!

Taylor Swift – “You Belong with Me”
The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer honored New York City in her 2009 VMA performance as the starlet threw a dance party in the subway station that ended in front of Radio City Music Hall.
Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi”
Mother Monster has always kept the audience at the edge of their seat, and her performance at the 2009 VMAs was no different. The singer-songwriter performed her hit song “Paparazzi” and had a sacrificial ceremony on live television!
Beyonce – “Love on Top”
Queen Bey jazzed up in a sequenced blazer and performed her hit track “Love on Top” at the 2011 VMAs. At the end of her performance, the “Single Ladies” songstress unbuttoned her jacket and rubbed her stomach letting the world know she had a baby on board!
Janet Jackson – Tribute to Michael Jackson
Janet Jackson channeled her late brother Michael Jackson by performing his iconic dance moves to some of his timeless tracks including “Smooth Criminal” and “Scream” in 2009. She closed her performance with a black and white photo of her and the King of Pop!
Britney Spears – “Like a Slave 4 U”
Last but not least, how could we forget Britney’s iconic VMA performance in 2001 when she danced with exotic animals during her performance of “Like a Slave 4 U?” The “Ooh La La” singer brought the jungle to New York City as she opened her act in a cage with a white tiger and ended with an albino python!
