Demi Lovato Talks ‘X Factor,’ ‘Glee’ … and Wilmer Valderrama
Demi Lovato, who is reprising her role as a judge on The X Factor, phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about everything from what keeps her coming back to FOX’s hit show to whether she’s currently with Wilmer Valderrama and her upcoming role on Glee.
The “Heart Attack” singer, who just turned 21-years-old, revealed she celebrated the milestone birthday in Africa … and that a family in Kenya even gave her a goat as a birthday present! Demi revealed although she left the goat (which she named Billy) with a family in Africa, the birthday celebration was “amazing.”
“It was this huge celebration for my birthday and I didn’t know it was going on. People were just taking my hand and dancing … and all of a sudden they put a goat in my arms and it wasn’t like a baby goat, it was a nice sized goat. And they’re like, ‘It’s for you!’ and I was like, ‘Oh my god! I’ve got a goat!'”
After returning to L.A., Demi continued to celebrate her birthday after being spotted with on-again, off-again boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama at Disneyland. So is she finally ready to reveal they’re back together? Not so fast.
“He is an incredible human being and I am honored to have him in my life, but I do feel like, regardless of what the status is, I share so much with the world that I like to keep some things private and it’s something I don’t want to talk about.” Demi defends stepping out in such a public place, adding: “You can do whatever you want. You can be seen holding hands. You can be seen wherever, but it doesn’t mean you have to talk about it or acknowledge it because it opens up a can of worms.”
Although Demi wants to stay mum on her relationship status, she’s more than open to discussing her return to The X Factor for her second season.
Demi admits she came back for another season because: “I had so much fun last year and I learned so much and it really made me want to work harder as an artist and I got great feedback last year, so I thought why not do it again this year.”
And aside from gearing up for the premiere of the competition show, she’s also lending her talents to another hit FOX show, Glee.
“It’s been awesome,” Demi shares of playing Naya Rivera‘s character’s love interest. “We had our first episode togther this last week and … I’m good friends with a lot of the cast members already, so it was like walking into a giant hang-out.”
But she also wants to make a statement with her role. “I don’t want people to take from this, ‘Oh my god, Demi is kissing a girl,'” Demi explains. “I want people to take from it this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I’m able to play a young lesbian on primetime TV … I’m honored to be able to be hopefully inspiring people with my character to be who they are and not be afraid of it or ashamed.”
Catch the two-night premiere of The X Factor beginning on September 11 at 8/7c on FOX.
