Ben Affleck Breaks Silence on ‘Batman’ Backlash

When Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, fans flocked to the Internet to express their disapproval (and that’s putting it mildly).

During an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Monday, the actor-director finally broke his silence on the immense backlash.

After saying it was “so awesome” to be cast as the Caped Crusader, Ben did admit he was warned fans may not be as excited. He explained that studio execs told him, “‘Listen, we want to talk to you because people go through this process and it can be trying.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ ‘We want to show you some of the reactions that past people who have been cast have gotten, like on the Internet and stuff.'”

Despite the warning, Ben insisted he could take the heat. “I’m a big boy,” he joked. “They said just don’t use the Internet for a couple of days. I handle sh-t. I’m very tough.”

That all changed when the big news broke and Ben read a story about it on the Internet. “I look down on the first comment, the first one just goes, ‘Nooooooooo!'”
