Sean Hayes Reveals Why He Decided to Do ‘Sean Saves the World’
Sean Hayes is making a return to the small screen, this time in front of the camera.
The actor, who’s been busying producing everything from Hot in Cleveland, Grimm, and Hollywood Game Night, is back with NBC’s newest sitcom, Sean Saves the World.
The actor phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest and revealed he never thought he’d do another sitcom after the successful Will & Grace.
“No, I did not [think I would]. But everything is about timing and this seemed like the right timing and people involved.” Sean adds that although “it’s a painstaking process to find the best people involved to create the machine that you’re building,” he feels they’ve accomplished that with the new sitcom, which follows him as a gay single dad to a 14-year-old daughter.
“I feel we’ve done it again,” Sean admits. “I feel these actors and these writers are that rare lightning in a bottle again.”
Sean says it was his character that drew him to the show. “When you create new shows, you always try to find relationships and characters you haven’t seen on TV before. [And] I personally have never seen a single gay father raising a teenage daughter … so to me that was one of the reasons I said, ‘Let’s do this!’ It was exciting.”
Catch the premiere of Sean Saves the World tonight, October 3, on NBC at 9/8c.
