‘Glee’ Mourns the Loss of Cory Monteith in Emotional Promo: Watch

The cast of Glee have returned to the set for its fifth season, and everyone’s hearts are heavy with grief as we say goodbye to one of the star actors, Cory Monteith.

In the Glee promo titled, “Farewell to Finn,” the students of McKinley High School gather around Finn’s locker to celebrate the life of the late quarterback. The trailer features Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson), Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel), and Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester) showing real, heartbreaking emotions while Lea Michele — who was also Cory’s off-screen girlfriend — sings Adele‘s love ballad, “Make You Feel My Love.”

“What you will see in the episode is what really happened,” says Glee‘s co-creator Ryan Murphy. “Brad [Falchuk] and Ian [Brennan] and I wrote that episode and Brad directed it, and those performances that you’ll see, almost everything in that episode is from the first take of every performance because the actors and the crew had a really hard time shooting it.”

After receiving an outpouring of calls from former cast members requesting to appear in the tribute, Ryan also revealed that the episode will feature cameos from Amber Riley (Mercedes), Mark Salling (Puck), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike Chang), who are all no longer on Glee.

Cory was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13. An autopsy later revealed that the actor passed away of mixed drug toxicity.

The episode titled, “The Quarterback,” airs on Thursday, October 10 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
