6 Best Moments From Miley Cyrus on ‘Saturday Night Live’

After the airing of her MTV documentary Miley Cyrus: The Movement on Wednesday, it was on to the next one for the “We Can’t Stop” singer.

Miley Cyrus proved just that by taking over NBC’s live sketch-comedy show Saturday Night Live where the 20-year-old reprised her role as host and also served as the musical guest.

From Miley’s cold open dishing on her 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance to her spellbinding performance of “Wrecking Ball,” the Miley Cyrus-hosted show was jam-packed with a medley of comical parodies of her controversial career and all things pop culture.

In honor of Miley’s return to television — which beat Tina Fey‘s season opener in the ratings — here are her 6 best moments on SNL:

1. VMAs Backstage

Set in 2045, the cold open takes place in post-apocalypse New York City, where two survivors trace the downfall of America back to Miley’s raunchy VMAs performance. In a flashback, the scene cuts to Miley Cyrus prepping backstage at the 2013 VMAs — wearing a bear leotard sticking her tongue out. As the twerking starlet gears up for her performance, she gets an unlikely visit from her old self (Vanessa Bayer) who warns present Miley that her performance “might be too controversial.”

2. Monologue

In the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s sidesplitting monologue, she revealed that there will be “no twerking tonight,” reassured the audience that she won’t “apologize for my VMA performance,” and updated viewers that her alter ego Hannah Montana had been “murdered!”

3. “We Did Stop”

The “Bangerz” singer used her record-setting music video for “We Can’t Stop” to spoof the government shutdown. Re-written as “We Did Stop,” Taran Killam played John Boehner and Miley dressed as Michele Bachmann to put a more “conservative” twist on her video. With the bears replaced by elephants — which is the symbol for the Republican party — Miley sings, “If you’re not ready for healthcare / can I get a ‘hell no’ / cause we’re gonna keep it shut down / D.C. is a closed town all around.”

4. Fifty Shades of Grey Audition

Miley deepened her voice to play Scarlett Johansson and parodied the auditions for the popular S&M novel-turned-movie, Fifty Shades of Grey. Other cast members mocked the screen test by portraying Seth Rogen, Kristen Stewart, Steve Harvey, and Rebel Wilson.

5. Miley’s Sex Tape

In the final sketch of the night, the 20-year-old made a sex tape … but luckily it was only a satirical skit. In the parody, the Disney alum stripped down to the her pink bra and promised Kyle Mooney she was willing to get “freaky” and do anything he wanted.

6. Wrecking Ball Performance

For her chilling performance of her heartbreak ballad, “Wrecking Ball,” Miley ditched the giant wrecking ball from her record-breaking video and gave a hypnotizing rendition of her smash single.
