Jimmy Kimmel, Kanye West Hash It Out: Their 10 Best Moments

After their much publicized back and forth on Twitter, Kanye West stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night to clear the air and help his critics to “understand where he’s coming from.”

That didn’t stop Mr. West from making (what some might consider to be) outlandish statements as well as overall hilarious moments from the pair’s awkward confrontation.

After admitting that he only saw a few clips from Kanye’s much-mocked hour-long BBC Radio interview, Kimmel took an apologetic tone, telling the rapper that he took it out of context and noting “I really felt bad about all of this stuff, I did.” If you missed the showdown here are the 10 most notable moments.

1. “I don’t know if you know this; a lot of people think you’re a jerk.”

A stone faced Yeezy gave Kimmel no response to the statement, but his expression might just give away his true feelings. Kimmel does follow up with saying he has been one of Kanye’s largest supporters explaining, “I often tell people ‘I know this guy. He is not a jerk.'”

2. “We took it back to high school for a lil’ bit.”

After Jimmy revealed that a call between the two shortly after the Twitter confrontation was a “bad conversation,” Kanye acknowledges both their actions saying they “took it back to high school.” Kanye explains that his frustration with Kimmel came from a combination of knowing him personally, as well as not knowing other media figures who put out stories and “rumors” he doesn’t appreciate.

3. Kanye and Jimmy Kimmel’s Dad are Pals

Quite possibly the most random point of the conversation was the discussion of Kanye’s appearance at a wedding with Kimmel’s family. The 45-year-old talk show host explains that Kanye took a Southwest Airlines flight to make it to the wedding on time, and that he was a kind, really nice guy that even snapped a pic with his dad.

4. “I’m a creative genius, and there’s no other way to word it.”

An always humble (yeah, right) Kanye explains that he believes himself to be a creative genius, despite what others may say. Although this statement taken at face value comes across as arrogant, West explains that his ultimate goal is to contribute as much as he can to the world in his time, without limiting himself to just music.

5. “There’s no way a Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame.”

Kanye takes a moment to address the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s recent comments that Kim “is a reality star. We don’t do reality stars. She needs to get a real acting job then come to us.” Kanye dismisses this as old-school-thinking and as “not modern,” saying there should be no reason for her not to have a place on the famous walk. Way to stick up for your girl ‘Ye.

6. Kanye and Jimmy Laugh off Tweets

Despite some harsh words (and memes) thrown back and forth in their Twitter spat, Kanye and Kimmel laugh off some of the tweets late in the interview and show that they have mended their differences.

7. Leather Jogging Pants for North West

To further squash their beef, Jimmy brings Kanye a gift of leather jogging pants — which inspired the original Kimmel spoof — for North West.

8. “It’s not about racism anymore. It’s classism.”

Kanye addresses his belief that classism is the new normal, as opposed to racism, especially in media and pop culture. Kanye notes that this “classist” discrimination is based on different factors saying that because he is a rapper and his girlfriend is a reality star they are not considered on the same level as those who are “old money” despite being two of the biggest names in pop culture across the world.

9. “I want to make the new Ralph Lauren. Exactly what I did in music, I want to apply to product, to education.”

Kanye expresses his desire to make a name for himself in the fashion world, as well as his frustrations that he hasn’t received the proper backing from investors to do so yet. Despite being behind some of the biggest news in fashion and streetwear in recent years (i.e. his Nike Air Yeezy shoes, his A.P.C. collection, etc.) Kanye says he has yet to receive a “deal” in the world of fashion. Discussing more in depth his overall goals and dreams, West vents his frustration with being put in a box as a “celebrity” and trying to communicate that his scope of knowledge and expertise surpasses just the world of music and hip hop.

10. “You do help me get money paparazzi, you show people how fresh my outfit is.”

In closing moments of the interview Kanye sends a message to the paparazzi and addresses his recent struggles with them saying, “Don’t ask me a question about something you saw in the tabloids, don’t try to antagonize me, because you know what? It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second and think you can walk up and disrespect me and my family.” A clear message from Mr. West to close out the interview, and to wrap up an extremely interesting television moment.
