Zedd Admits He Didn’t Plan on Becoming a DJ

Anton Zaslavski, better known as Zedd, phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest and revealed despite his current success, he never strived to be a DJ.

The man behind hits like “Clarity” and “Spectrum” explains his career began out of pure passion. “I started basically just making music when I was like 4 and my parents taught me to play the piano, so I was just into music from when I was little … I never really wanted to become a DJ and I don’t think I ever wanted to become a producer either. I just wanted to make music and I used to be in a band forever and when I heard Jus†ice … I was just interested in knowing how to make those kind of sounds. I started making electronic music without even liking electronic music or listening to it.”

The 24-year-old reveals his timing was also spot on. “I started doing it immediately when it blew up … but I had no clue what was going on. Back then, I was sitting home in Germany and I had no clue what was going on in America and that EDM was about to become the biggest thing.”

And with so many popular DJs out there now, we had to wonder, how does Zedd know what will be on trend next?

“That’s the most difficult thing right now, especially with the technology we have right now, by taking the time to recreate what’s in, you’ve already missed it and there’s something else. So I try to not follow any [trends] and follow my feelings and … the rules that apply to music always, which are having a good melody and interesting chords … and that’s why I always try to make all my music on a piano and then try to find the right talent for it.

The artist, who has produced tracks for Lady Gaga as well, is also a self-proclaimed Mila Kunis fan.

Zedd jokes that he’s “tried to” act upon his crush for the actress, but admits he’s yet to meet her.
