Is This 18-Foot Oarfish Found in California Terrifying or What?
Forget sharks, whales, stingrays, and jelly fish … this is what we consider to be the most frightening creature in the ocean!
On Sunday, Jasmine Santana, a science instructor at the Catalina Island Marine Institute in California discovered a rare 18-foot oarfish during a routine snorkeling expedition (luckily for her, it was already dead).
Oarfish, which are also referred to as sea serpents, can grow as large as 56-feet long and tend to live in darker areas of the ocean about 3,000 feet below the surface.
This oarfish will be buried on the beach by CIMI and after it has decomposed, its skeleton will go on display at the Marine Institute.
How scary is this oarfish? Have you ever seen one?
